6. hua xian zi
Hua xian zi 1,000+ Pansy Seeds- Swiss Giants Mix Flower Seeds Bulk Hardy Annual by Ohio Heirloom Seeds
hua xian zi - Great for flower boxes, containers, and beds. Pansy seeds are fairly difficult to germinate and require very specific conditions. You will want to start your seed at a fairly cool temperature, 60F to 65F. Keep them moist and cool, in 20 days or so, and away from sunlight.
That's it- cool and dark until they emerge. Water sparingly to keep damp not wet. Sprinkle your seeds onto your starting mix, then sprinkle more mix over the seeds to cover with about 1/8" of soil- they need to be covered- and place them in a dark room.
If you seed outside, just make sure that there is some soil covering them. The most common causes of failure are excessive moisture and too much light!!!! Once you see a few leaves appear, you can move them to a sunnier, warm place.
It is best to put your seeds in the refrigerator for several days before starting them. Plants grow to 4"-10" and produce 2"-3" flowers in an array of single and bi-colors. Give them a few days to acclimate and they can then be transplanted. They overwinter quite well here in Ohio zone 5/6 but are considered a hardy annual. Seeds will produce flowers in the first year if planted early. However, with the proper attention they can be grown successfully from seed.
